Classic Teen Patti stays the same from table to table, but families love to twist it, especially during Diwali card nights. The dealer usually names the variation before the deal. Everything else, including boot, blind and seen play, pack, side show and show, works as in the classic rules unless the variation says otherwise.
Muflis (lowest hand wins)
Muflis turns the rankings upside down. The lowest hand wins the show. High card beats pair, pair beats colour, and a trail is the worst hand you can hold. The best Muflis hand is usually 2-3-5 in mixed suits, the lowest possible high-card hand.
So stop hoping for pairs. A hand with no pair, no flush and no run, topped by a low card, is strong.
AK47
Every ace, king, four and seven is wild. A wild card can stand in for any card you need. With two wild cards you already hold a trail.
Strong hands become far more common. A plain pair that would be good in classic Teen Patti is weak here, because wild cards make trails and sequences easy to build.
Joker
After the deal, one card is turned face up. Every card of that rank becomes wild for the round. Some tables use a real joker or two instead.
As with AK47, bigger hands turn up more often, so count how many wild cards could be in play before you bet on a pair.
High Joker and Low Joker
Each player's own highest card (High Joker) or lowest card (Low Joker) becomes wild for that player only.
Every hand has at least one wild card, which makes trails and pure sequences regular. Judge your hand by what your other two cards can build.
999
Instead of hand rankings, cards score points: aces 1, number cards their face value, and 10, J, Q and K score 0. Add up your three cards and keep only the last digit, so 7 + 8 + 3 = 18 scores 8. The score closest to 9 wins. Some tables add extra rules for three nines, so check before you play.
The game is almost entirely luck. Beyond deciding how much to put in, there is very little a player can do.
Four Card
Each player gets four cards and picks the best three to play. Hand rankings are the same as classic Teen Patti.
Choosing three from four makes strong hands much more common, and a single pair is worth less than usual.
Lowball and Banco
Some tables play a Muflis-style lowball where only the showing players compare. Others use Banco, where one card is dealt face up to the middle and every player may use it. These are local house rules with many versions, so ask the dealer to explain before the round starts.
Comparing the variations
| Variation | What changes | Winning hand shifts to |
|---|---|---|
| Muflis | Rankings reversed | Low mixed-suit high card |
| AK47 | A, K, 4, 7 are wild | Trails and sequences common |
| Joker | One rank becomes wild | Depends on the joker rank |
| High / Low Joker | Your own top or bottom card is wild | Trails common |
| 999 | Point totals, not rankings | Mostly luck |
| Four Card | Four cards, play best three | Stronger hands overall |
Variations in apps
Card-game apps usually offer several of these variations in separate lobbies, with their own tables. Wild-card games produce big hands often, which makes rounds feel exciting and moves chips quickly. Set your chip limit before you open a variation table, and read our app safety guide before installing any Teen Patti app.
Teen Patti Gold has separate Muflis, AK47, Joker, Hukam and Royal tables, and Teen Patti Master and its 2027 edition offer several of these variations in their lobbies too. The classic rules they all start from are on our Teen Patti guide.
Frequently asked questions
What is Muflis in Teen Patti?
Muflis is the reverse variation. The lowest hand wins the show, so a plain low high-card hand beats a trail.
Which cards are wild in AK47?
All four aces, kings, fours and sevens. Each one can stand in for any card you need.
Which Teen Patti variation needs the most skill?
Classic Teen Patti and Muflis reward reading the table and folding well. Wild-card games and 999 depend far more on luck.
